Concept
Breast cancer is the most common cancer, especially among women. Cancerous cells grow – tumours spread. Breast self-examination is very important, as cancer detection in its early stages significantly improves survival rates. However, there is not enough education about self-examination and just knowing how breast tissue may change and how to identify a lump.
Therefore, DotPlot created the first at-home breast monitoring device, which could make people’s breast self-checks less complicated and more consistent.
So the main points for the device branding were: creating something suitable for women and men; taking into account that the device detects growth or any changes in breast tissue; whether it is cancerous or not, the device does not diagnose and does not replace GP appointments; deliver sensitive information without heightening anxiety. The primary audience is women 50+ years old, so the general style was chosen to be more modest, relaxing, but at the same time modern, as the goal is to raise breast self-awareness among people.

As the name “cancer” – the main problem of the project – originates from Greek, the name for the device that could help with cancer detection could also come from Greek. Afi – a perfect name for a small device, which works by getting pressed to the skin and moved from one spot to another + breast self-check is all about touching and feeling one’s skin.
Even though breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed among women, it exists among men as well. That’s why were chosen pastel calm “unisex” colours, avoiding pink.
